Beauty Budget Hack: How Monthly Facials Replace Costly Habits

Ready for my money-saving tip? Receive regular facials! Now I know you’re thinking, facials can be expensive. How can visiting an esthetician for a luxury service every 4-6 weeks save me money? Isn’t that something that should be cut out when focusing on budgeting?

This service might seem like a “frivolous luxury,” but it is actually a premium part of our beauty and health routines. A trusted esthetician will be able to properly clean, treat, protect, and give you the best guidance about how to care for your skin. So while yes, a facial is a luxury service, visiting an expert esthetician regularly will give you long-lasting benefits and confidence, and this will have a trickle-down effect, causing you to spend way less money in other areas of your life.

scrub me secret: a great facial provides all your skincare needs and also melts away tension in your face and neck muscles. Tension held in our faces and necks causes visible signs of aging like sagging and wrinkles, but it can lead to headaches and an overall sense of discomfort. Releasing this tension and relaxing brings a sense of calm to the body and lowers your stress/cortisol in the body. This results in less overall inflammation.

How Monthly Facials Can Save You Money

Impulse skincare and makeup buys, trendy products or devices promoted by influencers, the daily urge to wear a full face of makeup, little 'treat yourself' purchases, and even Botox or filler appointments—these can all be replaced by monthly facials with your trusted esthetician. Don’t underestimate the value of healthy, happy, clear skin + guidance from a professional.

Save Money With Less Impulsive Skincare Purchases

So many skincare products, devices, supplements, and multi-step systems make promises to improve your skin. And while some products live up to the hype, many of them are simply a waste of money. A skincare expert can help you curate a purposeful routine with skincare items that are good for your skin health, treat your specific skincare needs, and yield real results.

A great esthetician also has insider knowledge of what skincare brands have the best ingredients and could even end up opening your eyes to skincare lines that aren’t advertised widely, skincare lines that make your skin look and feel great without overspending.

scrub me secret: Part of my job as an esthetician is helping people with their at-home skincare routines. I am constantly talking my clients out of purchasing skincare items or devices they see advertised on social media (because most of those products are 🗑). And I help guide them to having a purposeful skincare routine using items that work for their skin and fit their budget. Therefore, I save them money by helping them intentionally shop for items instead of impulse purchasing.

A Clearer, Brighter Complexion = Less Makeup

I wish I were keeping a tally of the number of times a client has told me, “I barely wear any makeup anymore, now that my skin looks and feels this healthy. Because I’ve been told it many times throughout my esthetician career, and it always makes me so happy to hear!

Once you’re on a consistent facial regimine and have a purposeful skincare routine that works for you at home, you’ll notice your skin start to look clear, radiant, even, and youthful. That means less money spent on foundations, contour, coverup, powders, makeup brushes, etc.

Facials Can Replace the Need for Injectables Like Botox and Fillers

You would be surprised at the anti-aging, wrinkle-reducing, and lifting effects you’ll receive from proper skincare treatments. Speciality facial massage like myofascial, gua sha, lymphatic drainage, buccal, and circulation boost massage is amazing for anti-aging, age prevention, and creating facial contour. Red LED therapy and infrared light stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis, making your skin more firm and plump (another way to reduce lines and wrinkles!). And caring for your skin using high-quality skincare items, intentional ingredients, and other therapies that create microcirculation are all ways your esthetician can keep you looking smooth, firm, tight, and contoured.

All these facial therapies deliver so many of the results you might hope to get from expensive (and possibly unsafe) injectables. This interesting article from Byrdie lists costs and frequency of the most common Botox and filler treatments. Monthly facials could reduce your spending on services like these…because you won’t need them 😉

Replace A Mediocre Massage or Retail Therapy With A Purposeful Facial

Sometimes we can waste a lot of money on purchases to help boost our overall mood. And while I’m a huge champion of grabbing yourself your favorite latte, baked good, or visiting your favorite manicurist for a special treat, I notice that many people make impulse purchase decisions on items that don’t add much value to their lives or treatments that don’t yield real benefits.

A long-standing facial appointment is a great way to care for yourself and give yourself an extra special treat every month. So instead of waiting until you are so overdue for self-care that you book yourself the first massage you can find, or buy that top you know you’ll probably never wear, or housewares you don’t really need, just have a regular facial.

scrub me secret: Now I’m not hating on massages, some massage therapists are super skilled at what they do and can provide real benefits like muscle relief, lymphatic drainage, realignment of the body, etc., but more often than not, a massage offered at a commercial business, luxury spa, or high-end hotel is not worth it. I like to opt for therapies like acupuncture, cupping, facial massage, infrared sauna/cold plunge, and head massage instead of traditional massage.

What Money Can’t Buy: Being Kind To Yourself

There are studies that show being kind to yourself and treating yourself with special care, even momentarily, significantly boosts emotional well-being and buffers stress reactions in real-life settings. So, having a monthly appointment where you take the time out of your day to invest in yourself and let someone pamper you is not only going to improve your skin, but it could change the way you feel about yourself and show up in the world.

Not to mention that lower stress levels = less inflammation in the body, which has both beauty and health benefits. That’s stuff money can’t buy!
