Serums That are great for any skin type.

Serums are a great addition to our skincare routine because they have the ability to deliver concentrated skincare ingredient blends deep into our skin. Serums are made so their molecules can travel deeper into our skin than a moisturizer or facial oil. So if you’re looking for something to give your skin more effective results or looking for a product to add some “oomph” to your skincare routine, a serum could be it.

scrub me secret: I find that sometimes those with oily skin types are afraid of using a moisturizer for fear of clogging the pores. While there are so many amazing non-pore clogging facial moisturizers the feel of a product like this can still be really off-putting for those of you with oily skin. I would recommend a hydrating serum instead of a moisturizer to someone that wanted something extremely lightweight. The Josh Rosebrook hydration concentrate I list below is a fabulous option.

These serums I’ve recommended are products I think would provide benefits for any type of skin. I chose these products based on their ingredient blends. In my experience and research, I’ve found that each of these serums is free from skin-damaging, sensitizing, or irritating ingredients. These serums contain ingredients that play a role in improving overall skin health and appearance. If you’re new to serums or thinking of adding a new one to your routine I would definitely recommend one of these!

scrub me secret: I am not paid by any companies to recommend or talk about skincare products. All products I recommend are because I personally like them as an esthetician and would recommend them to my own clients.

PCA - Rejuvenating Serum

A peptide serum is a serum that helps keep the skin plump and elastic. This also results in a more radiant glow overall because your collagen and elastin are healthy and allows your skin to reflect more light.

This rejuvenating serum has plant stem cells made from grapes that help protect and plump your skin. This serum has a lovely lightweight feel and a slightly cooling effect.

The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% Serum

I truely believe that each and every skintype can benefit from niacinamide (vitamin B3). This skincare ingredient helps reduce redness or pigmentation that we get from a breakout. It also helps even-out overall complexion.

This niacninamide serum from the ordinary is a very affordable price point and has skin-loving, purposeful ingredients. I find it to be especially effective for those with acne, sensitive skin, or skin with acne scars.

scrub me secret: When choosing a skincare product I look more-so at the ingredients list rather than the price point of the item. Serums contain high-quality ingredients and are hard to formulate so many of them end up having a higher price but every once in and while I will find a really effective serum with great ingredients at a low price point. In my blog post “My favorite items under $30” I list other affordable skincare products.

Josh Rosebrook - Hydration Boost Concentrate

Each and every skintype, even oily or congested skin types can benfit from a good hydration serum. Adding a hydrating serum to your routine if you have oily skin can help balance it out resulting in less oil production from your pores. If you have a dry, aging, or sensitive skin type a hydraion serum keeps it healthy and plump and ensures your other products will work their best.

Josh Rosebrook skincare is a plantbased skincare line with products that I really trust. The blends of ingredietns are filled with skin-loving items that have antioxidants, vitmains, and minerals. This hydration boost concentreate is also really lightweight and absorbs fast.

PCA - C&E Strength Max Serum

I talk about vitamin C serum a lot. Especially this vitamin C serum. A daily vitamin C product can greatly help reduce the signs of aging in your skin. It gives your skin antioxidant protection and skin-strengthening benefits. Vitamin C serum to me is almost like SPF; I think everyone should be using it every day.

This vitamin C&E serum is really effective and safe for all skin types to use. I recommend it to so many of my friends, peers, and clients and no one has ever been disappointed.

scrub me secret: I love this vitamin C serum so much that I have been using it on myself for 12 years! I use it mostly every morning and it really contributes for my overall clear complexion and helps prevent aging.

Herbivore - Cloud Jelly Plumping Hydration Serum

A hydrating serum that provides some plumpness is something we could all benfit from, am I right?😉 I like when I find a plumping and hydrating serum that has a texture that all skintypes will like. Something that helps skin feel elastic but not saturated or coated in product.

Herbivore is another plant-based skincare that makes skincare products that I trust. I would recommend this serum to anyone looking for a product that adds some plumpness and “bounce” to their skin’s texture.

Ology Essentials - Essential Facial Elixir

A soothing serum is so beneficial for any type of skin. We all have those moments where our skin is experiencing inflammation or has areas of redness. It’s great to have an item in your skincare routine that delivers anti-inflammatory and anti-redness properties.

This soothing serum uses CBD to provide effective anti-inflammatory benefits. This serum also contains moisture-binding hyaluronic acid that is helpful for strengthening the skin’s barrier. This is one of my favorite serums to use during a facial treatment.

scrub me secret: half my serums I recommend in this blog post have hydration properties. That’s because I find that all skin types benefit from water-based hydration. it helps keep the barrier balanced, plump, and functioning correctly.

When adding new products to your skincare routine I always like to remember and remind my clients that less is more. I suggest starting off with just one or two new products; I don’t recommend introducing your skin to a bunch of new items all at once.

So now that you’ve chosen what serum to add to your skincare routine what’s the next step? Make sure you’re getting the most out of your product by layering all your skincare items (cleanser, toner, exfoliant, serum...) in the correct order. Read my blog post “Skin care layering - the proper order to apply your skincare.” for a step-by-step of the proper order for your skincare routine.
