Colorful fruits & veggies

Eat the rainbow! Ingesting an array of green, red, orange, yellow, and purple fruits and veggies on a daily basis has some MAJOR skin benefits. Making sure you eat all the different colors of the rainbow means that you’re getting a good variety of the vitamins and nutrients fruits and veggies have to offer. The nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals that berries, veggies, and leafy greens contain help boost your skin’s overall radiance, fight inflammation, and preserve your collagen and elastin cells. Berries specifically carry a ton of antioxidants, citrus fruits have your needed vitamin C, bell peppers are rich in both vitamins A & C, and leafy greens contain chlorophyll & B. This is a dietary ritual that your skin will definitely see a difference from overtime.

scrub me secret: all my vegans and vegetarians out there this tip is for you! Collagen-filled broths, supplements, and enriched waters we ingest to help improve our skin and body are derived from animals or fish. Since vegan and vegetarian lifestyles don’t allow meat or animal products you’ll have to find a different way to give your skin and body that extra collagen boost. Flooding your diet with these colorful fruits and veggies will give you some of the same great benefits as drinking bone broth.

Bone broth

Bone broth is different than any other broth. This highly nutritious elixir is made from simmering down high-quality chicken, beef, or pork bones. The liquid that is rendered from the simmering of bones and tissues is collagen and nutrient-rich broth that provides both internal and external benefits. Consuming a cup of quality bone broth daily infuses your body with vitamins, fatty acids, and collagen. Bone broth is also said to help with digestive health which directly correlates to our skin’s health. When I have homemade bone broth available at home I drink it daily for collagen absorption.

scrub me secret: Intaking collagen in a liquid vs. a powered or capsule form makes it easier for your body to absorb the collagen peptides. As an esthetician I would recommend drinking a bone broth or Vital proteins collagen water if you’re wanting to incorporate more collagen peptides into your diet.

Changa

mushroom

Changa mushroom is a superfood that has minerals, antioxidants, nutrients, and Beta-glucans that provide some major health benefits. Beta-D-glucans improve your overall immune system which is definitely helpful when it comes to looking/feeling healthy and radiant. Antioxidants and other nutrients help fight both aging and inflammation. Adding Changa mushrooms into your daily routine can help improve your body inside and out. This superfood comes in capsule form, tea, and a powder you can mix with coffee.

scrub me secret: My absolute favorite thing to treat myself to on the mornings I need an extra boost (and a little something sweet) is the Renude Changaccino. This is a powder made from changa mushroom, cacao, cinnamon, and monk fruit that you add to hot coffee to make a delicious superfood “latte” type drink. Absolutely delish!

Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens is a blend of vitamins in powder form that you mix with water and drink daily. This is a product I had heard a lot of buzz about but wanted to do my own research before investing. After reading the list of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, antioxidants, and mushroom extract I knew this would have some amazing health benefits. Just to double-check I had a nutritional expert give me her thoughts on it; not only did she approve but said she herself is an Athletic Greens user.

I have been drinking a serving of this superfood, vitamin powder with 8-10oz of water daily for about 5 months now and I totally approve! I truly do believe that this blend of rich nutrients helps give my skin a radiant glow from the inside out and is helping preserve my skin’s health.

mint tea.jpg

Mint tea

Adding a glass of mint tea into your daily routine could have some great anti-inflammatory benefits for your skin! Peppermint and spearmint leaves have natural anti-inflammatory benefits that can help treat puffiness and redness in the skin. Having a cup of mint tea daily will add some extra hydration to help keep your lymph fluid moving and will also help fight inflammation in the body. I often recommend for my clients with acne to try adding a non-caffeinated, unsweet, mint tea to their daily dietary routine.

scrub me secret: Moroccan mint tea is one of my favorite mint tea blends. It’s a green tea with peppermint that provides a perfectly refreshing, but not overpowering, mint flavor. numi Moroccan Mint tea is a great one!

Slow & steady water intake

It’s a known fact that a good amount of daily water intake helps keeps our skin and body healthy and hydrated. But did you know that drinking your water more slowly can lead to better absorption? Drinking your water at a more relaxed pace throughout the day vs. chugging large amounts will allow your body to absorb more of the hydration rather than let the majority of it pass through the body. Drinking water first thing the morning on an empty stomach is also great for hydration. So grab that water bottle and fill up!

scrub me secret: according to the Mayo clinic an average adult female should ingest about 91oz of water per day and an average adult male should take in about 125oz of water per day.

All of these dietary rituals are things that I incorporate into my life. Proper water intake and incorporating these superfoods, supplements, and produce into my diet are things that help contribute to skin radiance, collagen preservation, and overall health. Having a healthy skincare routine is about what we put on the outside AND the inside. Cheers to healthy skin!
