Nano Needling - Rejuvenate and Smooth Your Skin

Nano needling is an innovative technology that uses a nano-infusion device to provide visible anti-aging, skin clearing, and texture renewal benefits to your face, neck, and decolletage. This treatment is non-invasive and provides results in a way that is sure to not damage your skin. Let’s dive deeper!

scrub me secret: nano needling is a new therapy I just brought into my skin care studio. I first experienced nano-infusion therapy during a facial earlier this year and I loved how it rejuvenated my skin and helped smooth bumpy texture and clear pigment that had been left behind from a cluster of breakouts. This summer I met with the Rezenerate company and took their online learning course to get certified in nano-needling.

What is Nano Needling?

Nano needling is a skincare treatment that uses a device to penetrate serums and active ingredients deeply into the skin while also stimulating cell renewal. Nano needling is often also referred to as nano-infusion therapy. A nano needling device is a small piece of equipment that your skin therapist will attach a sterile, disposable nano needle tip. This nano needle tip contains a cluster of nano-sized pyramids made using mono-crystalline silicon. The device pulsates at different speeds as the nano needle tip is placed onto the skin after the skin has been layered with targeted skincare. The nano-sized silicon pyramids push into the skin, delivering products deep into the stratum corneum without actually penetrating the skin. The silicon pyramids also create some stimulation and cell renewal as the device operates.

This treatment results in firmer feeling skin, smoother texture, reduction of lines and visible sagging, plus a clearer and more radiant complexion!

scrub me secret: to get an idea of the size of one of these nano-needle pyramids imagine the size of a strand of hair, now divide that by 4,000. A nano-needle pyramid is a tiny bit smaller than that! Nano technology is science and engineering that is conducted at 1-100 nanometers. Thats teeny tiny!

The Difference Between Micro Needling and Nano Needling:

Micro needling is a different, more invasive treatment that is geared toward treating skin texture, scarring, and wrinkles. Micro needling is a device that resembles a nano needling device, only instead of nano-sized silicon pyramids the tip of the device is made of a cluster or micro-sized needles. Nano needling tips don’t penetrate past the epidermis (the skin’s outer layer) while the micro needles penetrate deeper, into the epidermal-dermal junction.

Micro needling is completely different from nano needling. The goal of micro needing is to inflict small wounds to the skin tissue that can then repair themselves in an even stronger and healthier way. Micro needling is a treatment I like and approve of as an esthetician but it does require a bit of downtime (red, flaky skin for some days) and can sometimes be an uncomfortable treatment. The results of a micro needling treatment are long-lasting.

The goal of a nano needling treatment is to help effective products penetrate past the stratum corneum (the deepest layer of our epidermis). The products used will penetrate 40-50% deeper into your skin vs. if you just apply them regularly. This treatment requires no downtime and yields great results that are both immediate and long-lasting.

Nano Needling Benefits:

  • Helps make the appearance of lines and wrinkles less visible

  • Smoothes skin texture

  • Reduces the appearance of or fully removes markings caused by breakouts and acne

  • Brightens overall complexion

  • Gives a more rejuvenated and youthful glow!

scrub me secret: this nano-infusion technology that we are using for serum absorption was inspired by innovations in the medical industry where vaccine delivery was practiced using nano-infusion to see if that would be a viable option.

What a Nano Needling Facial is Like:

I’m going to detail step-by-step what a facial that includes nano-needling would look like so you can be prepared for any future treatments you decide to make for yourself.

  1. Your skin care needs and concerns will be discussed to your nano infusions can be customized to these needs

  2. Your skin is properly cleansed

  3. An exfoliant or decongestant mask is applied to the skin to prep for extractions

  4. Any needed blackhead or whitehead extractions are performed (this portion is optional)

  5. A toner is used to balance and prep the skin for serums

  6. Targeted serums like peptides, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, AHA’s, and maybe even retinol are applied to the skin

  7. The nano needling device is used to treat the neck and face area

  8. A calming and/or hydrating mask is applied to the skin and then removed after 10 minutes (this portion is optional)

  9. An additional therapy like red-LED therapy may be used to get even more renewal and anti-aging benefits

  10. Calming moisturizer and/or SPF is applied to your skin

  11. Cooling facial globes are used for a final calming massage (the portion is optional)

scrub me secret: at scrub me skin care studio I use the Rezenerate nano needle device for my nano-infusion facials. There are a few different companies that make nano needling devices for professionals to use. Your technician should be well-trained in the usage of whichever device they choose to use.
