scrub me's go-to facial mask

No better way to relax than with your favorite mask.

It’s hard to play favorites with the scrub me skincare items but the antioxidant powder mask is my favorite facial mask. It’s super beneficial for all skin types which is something that is hard to find for facial care! A blend of crushed grapeseed, rosehip, green tea extract, cucumber extract, and activated charcoal make up a fine-grained powder that when mixed with the nourishing serum or your favorite facial oil becomes a healing and gently exfoliating facial paste. This skin softening, antiaging, and healing mask/scrub is great for dry skin, acne, congested skin, sensitive skin, and aging skin. Let’s find out what makes this antioxidant powder blend so amazing!

scrub me secret: antioxidants in skincare have the ability to protect skin's proteins and fade lines & wrinkles. This is what makes them so popular for anti-aging.  Antioxidants also heal scarring, reduce inflammation from breakouts and brighten skin.  This means all different types of skin can benefit from antioxidant-rich products.

Antioxidant powder mask benefits:

When I’m creating a recipe for a new skincare item I handpick each ingredient based on what beneficial properties it will have for the skin. The blend of antioxidant powders that I chose creates the perfect texture of physically exfoliating your face.

scrub me secret: physical exfoliation is when a scrub is used to exfoliate your skin vs. a product with an exfoliating acid like lactic, glycolic, or malic. physical facial scrubs need to have a very fine-grained texture that uses materials with soft edges. some kernels and seeds that are broken down into smaller particles can have sharp or rough edges that can actually harm or damage your face when using them to scrub. in order for a facial scrub to be beneficial, you’ll need to choose one with a soft, fine texture vs. a rough and chunky texture.

Crushed grape seed is an antioxidant-rich powder that has a fine-grained texture that’s perfect for gently but effectively exfoliating. Rich antioxidant properties have the ability to reduce the negative effects of the sun and prevent aging.  Crushed rosehip is an even finer powder than grape seed but still adds scrubbing benefits. Rosehip has a lot of the same antiaging antioxidant benefits as grapeseed and helps give your skin a glow. Green tea extract is another fine powder that can reduce inflammation in breakouts, heal scarring, and enhance firmness in the skin. Collagen and elastin really benefit from this tea extract. Cucumber peel extract and activated charcoal are the only two powders in our mask that are not antioxidants.  Cucumber peel strengthens and balances our skin while providing some soothing benefits; great for acne and sensitive skin. Activated charcoal detoxifies pores without absorbing the healthy oils that our skin needs.

scrub me secret: Vitamins A, C, and E are very common in skincare products.  All these vitamins happen to be antioxidants with slightly different properties.  Vitamin A helps cell turnover, reducing scarring and smoothing texture.  Vitamin C brightens skin and protects collagen and elastin from breaking down.  Vitamin E helps the skin to retain moisture and ensures other skin-loving vitamins can do their job. One of my favorite clinical serums is a vitamin C&e serum from PCA.

How to use:

To use this powder mask properly you’ll want to mix it with the nourishing serum or your favorite facial oil. Mixing this dry antioxidant powder with the nourishing serum or a non-pore clogging facial oil is what gives this mask its luxurious fine texture. You can use the antioxidant mask as a scrub or let sit on your skin for 5-10minutes like a typical facial mask. Remove with warm water and continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

For congested, dry, aging, and balanced skin types I suggest scrubbing with this mask 3-5x a week. Acneic and sensitive skin types need to be treated a bit more gently; I suggest using this mask 2-3x a week. Sensitive and breakout-prone skin types can use the antioxidant powder as a gentle scrub or let it sit on your skin as a mask. Avoid scrubbing if you have cystic pimples that have popped or if your skin is highly sensitized. If your skin is in a state like this apply the mask, let it sit for 5minutes, and remove with lukewarm water.

scrub me secret: the nourishing serum is scrub me’s small batched facial oil that’s made with non-pore clogging oils like jojoba, fractionated coconut, and argan. added Bulgarian lavender and carrot seed essential oils provide soothing and antiaging properties. the nourishing serum is the perfect match for our antioxidant powder.
