It’s time for a mini blog! I thought the perfect way to follow up “Popular Beauty Services We Love” would be to document my experience getting lash extensions. I have had lash extensions in the past but it has been quite a few years. I absolutely love the way lash extensions look; being able to go completely makeup-free and still look pretty and presentable is the best! There were a couple of things I didn’t love about the extensions I was getting before, I felt as if I could always feel something on my lashes and this caused me to fuss with them more than I should have. I think I ultimately quit getting extensions because of this reason.

scrub me secret: the less that you handle your lash extensions the longer life you will get out of them. also, combing them too aggressively or picking at them can damage your own natural lashes. it’s suggested that you comb them with a lash comb in the AM and PM, and do nothing extra.

Since my last lash extension, I have learned that lash extensions shouldn’t feel heavy or uncomfortable on your lash in any way. I had heard some great things about Brittany from B.B lashes and decided to give extensions a try again. This blog was the perfect excuse to get some beautifying done.

Pre-lash extension appointment:

Of course, I stalked Brittany’s lash Instagram page to check out her work. I love to see before and after pictures when it comes to brow and lash services. Looking at her Instagram page also helped me better decide what kind of lashes I wanted. The lashes range from more natural-looking sets called “classic” to thick and luscious lashes called “full volume,” as well as a hybrid option that seems popular. The length of lashes is also customizable. I decided I wanted a more classic look but wasn’t sure about the length just yet. Brittany texted me the day before to confirm and then contacted me the day of to remind me to come makeup-free with nothing on my lashes.

scrub me secret: in order for the lash adhesive to attach to your lash properly, lashes need to be completely bare. This means no mascara, mascara residue, or any lash serums. This is super important if you want your lashes to stay on after your appointment.

My lash extension appointment:

I knew from my previous lash extension experiences that these appointments do take a bit of time, usually about two hours. During the whole process you’re laying down with eyes closed, which can be pretty relaxing if you want it to be! I opted to chat with Brittany during my entire service since we have so many beauty/business interests in common.

scrub me secret: Brittany told me that some clients use their lash extension appointment as a time to take a short nap. It’s also common to come with headphones so you can listen to music or a podcast during your appointment. whatever makes you feel best!

Right before I laid down on the bed for my service we discussed lash style and length. I told her I would like a classic lash but still wanted it to look a little bit glam. I decided to go with the longest length for more of a dramatic lash; Brittany did inform me that since I chose the longest length I may risk my lashes coming off more quickly than a shorter length. I appreciated her informing me so I knew what to expect. We got started and the process was totally comfortable. I never felt her tug on my lashes, she was very delicate with everything she did. The entire service time from start to finish was about two hours. The results were amazing! My lashes are super long and fuller than normal without looking too overdone. I loved this upgraded natural look; the best part is that I can’t feel the lash extensions on my natural lashes at all. She sent me home with important after-care instructions for the next 48 hours which basically stated that I cannot sweat excessively or get my lashes wet for this period of time. She also sent me home with a cute little lash comb that I can use in the AM and PM.

My lashes feel super lightweight and comfortable.

scrub me secret: during my appointment faux mink lashes were used. she informed me that these are the most common to use, easy to work with, more affordable, and very natural looking; not to mention, cruelty free! mink lashes are popular because they are soft and fluffy. these faux ones look and feel great to me!

Post lash extension appointment:

It’s been a few days since my lash extension appointment and I’ve been getting lots of compliments. The 48 hours of aftercare when you can’t get your lashes wet or have a sweaty workout was a little bit of a pain (but totally worth it!). This part was hard for me but I managed to accomplish it; I kept my workouts on the lighter side and kept my face away from the water while showering. I gently washed my face and avoided my lashes. Other things that I have to do to keep up with the maintenance of the lashes include making sure I don’t sleep directly on them and combing them out once in the morning and at night. This was fairly easy for me once I figured out a comfortable way to sleep. I have noticed a few of my lashes have shed already but I think this is common, especially due to the length I got. They still look great! Brittany said I would be ready for a fill about 2-3 weeks from my first appointment. I have made an appointment to come back for a 2-week follow up. I think I will try a slightly shorter length next time to switch it up and see how I like that. It’s safe to say I’m back on the lash extension bandwagon!
