My current skincare routine

Today I’m sharing my current skincare routine! As a skincare enthusiast, I find that I always love to hear about and see what other people are doing for their skin at home. I don’t necessarily ever look to copy or fully replicate someone else’s skincare routine because what works for someone’s specific skin isn’t guaranteed to work the same on my own. I like to learn about new products, exfoliation techniques, and facial tools, and even maybe get a little inspiration from the way someone applies their skincare. Then, I take away what I want; like maybe I’ll try a new moisturizer, mask, cleanser, etc. I saw that interested me or maybe I’ll try a new way of layering the products that I already have at home. Creating a skincare routine for yourself that gives YOUR own skin the best results should definitely be treated as a personalized experience.

This is my most current and up-to-date skincare routine. If I had to guess I would say I have been doing this specific routine for a little less than a year. For my skin, I have goals of keeping my dry skin hydrated and radiant (not dull), antiaging and preventing aging, and making sure my complexion stays even since I have the tendency to get small red bumps and breakouts.

My Morning Skincare Routine:

My AM routine cleanses my skin after my morning exercise, keeps it hydrated and balanced, and adds a level of age-preventing protection that’s super important to me.

My 6-step AM skincare routine:

  • Cleanse with scrub me balancing facial soap

This is a facial and body soap that I’ve been making for many years. Currently, I’m using this soap because my skin needs something cleansing after getting sweaty during my AM workout but also gentle. I like that I can easily use this in my shower. My skin also loves creamy cleansers and I often will switch back and forth between this cleanser and the BYBI milk melt.

  • Apply Ology Essentials hydrating CBD toner

I apply this toner by patting it onto my skin with my clean hands or using a cotton pad. This toner has hydrating and anti-inflammatory elements that help keep my skin soft and complexion even.

  • Apply Josh Rosebrook vitamin C serum

My favorite vitamin C serum! A powerful, yet non-irritating plant-based vitamin C complex blended with ferulic acid makes this an amazing serum for providing anti-aging protection benefits to my AM skincare routine. This serum makes my skin feel plump and wards off fine lines and discoloration. I like to apply the serum with my fingertips and then pat/press it into my skin with the palms of my hands.

  • Apply PCA peptide eye cream around my eye area

This peptide eye cream is one of the only eye creams I find that REALLY WORKS. Collagen and elastin-building peptides blended with enriched moisturizers diminish fine lines, prevent dark under-eyes, and help keep the eye area youthful. The best way to apply eye cream is to put some on your ring finger and then tap it onto your delicate eye skin. Pat with gentle little motions until its absorbed.

  • Apply Ology Essentials CBD facial lotion

Another anti-inflammatory product that helps ensure my skin stays clear and free of redness or random little breakouts. This is a medium/lightweight lotion that is perfect for under my SPF. I usually wait 30-60 seconds to put this on after my serum and eye cream.

  • Finish with Josh Rosebrook nutrient SPF

SPF is always a must! This SPF 30 is super hydrating and has a great way of making my skin feel really firm. I use 3 whole pumps of this SPF and liberally apply it all over my face and neck. Then, I gently rub it in until it’s all absorbed.

scrub me secret: I love having a hydrating face mist on hand like the Josh RoseBrook hydration mist or Heritage Rosewater facial mist. I’ll mist my face in the middle of the afternoon to refresh and give myself a nice healthy glow.

My Evening Skincare routine:

My PM routine cleanses off any skincare products, mascara, other makeup, and debris from the day. Products in this PM routine also target a bright, clear, healthy complexion without sensitizing my reactive skin.

My 7-step PM skincare routine:

  • Oil cleanse with scrub me nourishing serum

Oil cleansing is my favorite way to remove any makeup, tinted moisturizer, SPF, or environmental debris from the day. Oil cleansing is easy, you just put your facial oil of choice into your clean hands and then apply it to your face and rub in circular motions like you would a regular cleanser. Don’t be afraid to get it on your lashes to remove that stubborn mascara. Then, remove the oil with a cotton pad(s) and see how much debris comes off your face.

  • Cleanse with scrub me balancing facial soap

After oil cleansing, I cleanse with the facial soap that I used in the AM. This ensures my skin is really clean and ready for PM skincare.

  • Mist my skin with Josh Rosebrook hydration mist

I saturate my skin with this hydration mist to give it a ton of plumping and hydrating ingredients. This feels really good on my skin after my double cleansing. I wait for about 30 seconds before applying my next serum.

  • Apply PCA resveratrol serum

This resveratrol serum is something that I use to even out any pigment on my skin as well as strengthen my skin’s barrier so it can function at its best. This serum has pigment-fighting niacinamide that rids my complexion of any unwanted red or brown pigment. It also contains age-fighting and skin barrier strengthening resveratrol. I apply this to my skin with my fingertips and then press it into my skin with the palms of my hands.

  • Apply PCA peptide eye cream around my eye area

Peptide eye cream day and night to ward off wrinkles!

  • Apply Ology Essentials CBD facial lotion (wait 1 full minute before last step)

Using this same anti-redness and hydrating facial lotion that I use in the morning! Skincare doesn’t have to be super complicated.

  • Pat scrub me nourishing serum (facial oil) onto my skin over all the skincare

My normal/dry skin loves an antioxidant facial oil! Finishing off my PM skincare routine with a facial oil makes my skin feel really really moisturized and nourished and I feel like it helps me wake up looking really glowy ✨

scrub me secret: some days, when my workload and/or to-do list is really heavy i don’t have the energy for a full skincare routine. at times like this I will oil cleanse, apply toner or facial mist, and then apply either more facial oil or SPF depending on if it’s daytime or nighttime. I call this my “Lazy girl skincare routine”. You have my permission as an esthetician to do some version of this once a week or a couple of days a month if you need to. It’s so much better than skipping your routine fully. I wrote a blog post about this you can read here

You’ll probably notice I didn’t mention anything about face massage, facial masks, or facial tools. Since these items are not in my everyday skincare routine I didn’t list them in this blog post. Besides this skincare routine extra care for my skin consists of weekly face massage, red LED therapy a few times a month, weekly exfoliation using the antioxidant facial scrub and/or a lactic fluid, and masking 1-2x a month.
