Summertime moisturizer recommendations!

Warm weather is here! In the midwest, we get a really big shift in our weather starting around May/June. Dry air becomes more humid and frigid temperatures warm up quite a bit; our skin no longer feels really dry and dehydrated. A moisturizer is a must-have product for your daily skincare routine. When we are in a hot, humid climate or weather that makes us super sweaty, a rich and thick moisturizer can feel too heavy on our skin. Even if your facial cream or lotion is made with non-pore clogging oils and hydrators it’s nice to switch to a lighter-weight, more breathable moisturizer for the summertime to ensure our pores are clear and breakout free. And don’t even think about leaving a moisturizer out of your skincare routine! Without a moisturizer dry skin will look dull, oily skin can become more oily, and sensitive/acneic skin types can become blotchy and unbalanced.

I love the feeling of applying something hydrating and lightweight to my skin underneath my daily SPF, it really makes my skin plump, healthy, and glowy. Below are my esthetician recommended products!

scrubmesecret: these are my recommendations for facial moisturizers that contain no SPF. that doesn’t mean you can skip your morning SPF application, you definitely need it! Your morning skincare routine should have a facial lotion, followed by sun protection cream. You also have the option to use a product that is a moisturizer with added SPF 30+. Read my blog post “Easy to reapply SPF” for some great product picks for summer sun protection.

All these products are ones I recommend because I truly like them and would recommend them to my facial clients. These are not paid ads or paid links.

Vital Boost Moisturizer

I love this moisturizer for the summer time because it feels hydrating enough for my dry skin and breathable at the same time. It’s a creamy texture that absorbs easily and leaves skin feeling soft but not oily. It’s great for dry, aging, acne prone, and combination skin types.

This moisturizer is special because it contains complexion clearing grapefruit peel oil and vitamin rich gooseberry and red tea extracts. Together these ingredients provide brightening and toning benefits.

Glass Skin Water-Gel Moisturizer

If you’re looking for something with a SUPER lightweight feel this is the moisturizer for you. This jelly-like consistency feels almost like a serum and makes skin feel plump and hydrated and dries with a matte feel. I like this product because I feel like all skin types can benefit from it. It’s a great product for providing moisture without trapping in sweat and oils.

Calming chamomile extract adds anti-redness benefits for sensitive and acneic skin types. Hyaluronic acid adds hydration that penetrates deeply into the skin.

scrub me secret: keep your glass skin water-gel moisturizer in the refrigerator for added calming effects. Applying this gel to your skin when it’s cold will help reduce redness even more. Such a nice thing to do when the weather is hot!

Blemish Balm Moisturizer

This moisturizer is a breathable, lightweight cream that contains ingredients that have breakout clearing and oil reducing properties. I like this product because it has the ability to treat breakouts without making the skin feel dry. This blemish balm is specifically nice for those experiencing pimples, excess oil, and/or acne.

I love that Osea uses clean and plant derived ingredients that aren’t harmful to our skin/bodies. Tea tree, juniper, and thyme essential oils work together in this moisturizer to provide those breakout clearing benefits.

scrub me secret: Osea also makes some really premium hydrating and antioxidant infusing facial mists. Another great product to put in your fridge or skin fridge during summer. 💦

Supermello Hydrating Gel Cream

Another product that is very very lightweight and has a matte feel (for under $30!). This hydrating gel cream feels creamy and slightly cooling when applying and then when it dries, it feels like there is no product on your skin. For dry skin this is nice to apply underneath a hydrating facial SPF. It’s the perfect texture for oily and congested skin types and will lay nicely underneath a lightweight SPF as well.

Marshmallow root is a plant derived ingredient that provides anti-inflammatory benefits in this gel- cream. An added probiotic has skin stengthing and toning properties.

scrub me secret: Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract gives the supermello gel-cream a cookie-like scent. Some people love it and others really dislike it. I myself am really sensitive to artificial fragrances and perfumes and I find this scent to be really pleasing. Since it’s derived from real vanilla extract it doesn’t bother me at all.

Clearskin Moisturizer

PCA is a skincare line I’ve been working with for over a decade. I like and trust this clinical skincare line because they are transparent about their ingredients in the products and are continually improving them as well. This moisturizer is a cream that feels rich and hydrating and leaves skin feeling soft but not oily. It contains ingredients that target and treat breakouts and pigment/redness that comes from inflamed pimples. It’s nice for those that feel a bit more congested in the summertime.

This moisturizer contains 4% niacinamide which is an ingredient that I find to be very helpful for clearing pigment or scarring that comes from breakouts. It also contains a small amount of breakout fighting vitamin A and lemongrass extract.
