The best scrub for your face: the antioxidant powder mask

It’s hard to play favorites with the scrub me skincare items but the antioxidant powder mask is my favorite product for physical exfoliation. Physical exfoliation is the act of using something with texture to exfoliate the skin, like a face scrub. The problem with many facial scrubs is that their texture is too abrasive for our delicate faces and necks. Some seeds, salts, and grains used for facial scrub products have edges that are sharp and jagged instead of soft and round. We want to treat our skin with a scrub that has a fine-grained, almost soft texture.

scrub me secret: I love using sea salts for body scrubs because of the mineral-rich and detoxification benefits. The skin on our body is more resilient than our face and has fewer pores per square inch; this means the skin on our body can handle a more abrasive scrub. I would never suggest a salt scrub for your face.

A blend of crushed grapeseed, rosehip, green tea extract, cucumber extract, and activated charcoal make up a fine-grained powder that when mixed with the nourishing serum or your favorite facial oil becomes a healing and gently exfoliating facial paste. This skin softening, antiaging, and healing mask/scrub is great for dry skin, acne, congested skin, sensitive skin, and aging skin.

scrub me secret: antioxidants in skincare have the ability to protect skin's proteins and fade lines & wrinkles. This is what makes them so popular for anti-aging.  Antioxidants also heal scarring, reduce inflammation from breakouts and brighten skin.  This means all different types of skin can benefit from antioxidant-rich products.

Antioxidant powder mask benefits:

When I’m creating a recipe for a new skincare item I handpick each ingredient based on what beneficial properties it will have for the skin. The blend of antioxidant powders that I chose creates the perfect texture for physically exfoliating your face.

Crushed grape seed is an antioxidant-rich powder that has a fine-grained texture that’s perfect for gently but effectively exfoliating. Rich antioxidant properties have the ability to reduce the negative effects of the sun and prevent aging.  Crushed rosehip is an even finer powder than grape seed but still adds scrubbing benefits. Rosehip has a lot of the same antiaging antioxidant benefits as grapeseed and helps give your skin a glow. Green tea extract is another fine powder that can reduce inflammation in breakouts, heal scarring, and enhance firmness in the skin. Collagen and elastin really benefit from this tea extract. Cucumber peel extract and activated charcoal are the only two powders in our mask that are not antioxidants.  Cucumber peel strengthens and balances our skin while providing some soothing benefits; great for acne and sensitive skin. Activated charcoal detoxifies pores without absorbing the healthy oils that our skin needs.

How to use:

To use this powder mask properly you’ll want to mix it with the nourishing serum or your favorite facial oil. Mixing this dry antioxidant powder with the nourishing serum or a non-pore clogging facial oil is what gives this mask its luxurious fine texture. You’ll use this mask as a scrub and then immediately remove it or let sit on your skin for 2-10minutes like a typical facial mask. Remove with a clean washcloth and lukewarm water, then continue with the rest of your skincare routine.

I suggest treating your skin to this exfoliation routine once a week, after cleansing, and before the rest of your skincare routine. If you feel like using it more you can, just don’t overdo it. Less is always more, we don’t want sensitized skin. Avoid scrubbing if you have cystic pimples that have popped or if your skin is red/raw/really sensitive.

scrub me secret: the nourishing serum is my small batched facial oil that’s made with non-pore clogging oils like jojoba, fractionated coconut, and argan. added Bulgarian lavender and carrot seed essential oils provide soothing and antiaging properties. the nourishing serum is the perfect match for the antioxidant powder.
