Esthetician recommended facial tools!

Now that you’ve used my previous blog post to optimize your at-home skincare I think you’re ready to amp up your routine even more. I’ve made a list of facial treatment tools you can use at home to increase the results you desire from your home care and make you feel like you’ve really brought the esthetics room into your own house! These items are listed in the order I would use them as an esthetician in the treatment room. For example, I started with the steamer for pore cleansing and ended the list with cooling globes that would finish off the treatment. This should give you a better idea of how to add these tools to your skincare routine at home.

scrub me secret: Remember not to overdo it with at-home facials and adding new steps to your skincare routine. less is more when it comes to maintaining the health of your skin. I wouldn’t recommend getting all of these tools to use on yourself. Choose 1 or 2 tools that have benefits that target your main skin concerns and commit to implementing them into your routine.

Facial steamer:

Having a mini facial steamer can benefit your skincare routine in a few ways. Steaming your face during the cleansing step can give you a deeper cleanse and better prep your skin for toner & serums. Using steam on your skin during exfoliation helps soften and loosen dead cells. You can also steam your face while you have a hydrating mask on to help more moisture bind to your skin. I like this mini tabletop steamer with the arm attachment because it makes it easier to steam your face at a comfortable, safe distance; you don’t want the steam to be too close to your face. I recommend steaming your face for no longer than 10 minutes.

Facial exfoliator:

I like the FOREO for an at-home facial exfoliation because it does more than soften and remove dead skin cells. This gentle vibrating facial scrubber also gives you a great little facial massage that stimulates circulation. This tool is best for carefully removing dry surface cells and rejuvenating the skin by stimulating oxygen, blood, and lymph movement. Do not apply a great amount of pressure when using this tool or try to “scrub away” blackheads or congestion. It really works best when used gently a few times a week.

scrub me secret: would you like similar results for a more affordable cost? this manual silicon facial exfoliation pad will give your face a similar gentle, stimulating facial exfoliation. you can use your fingers to apply light pressure and scrub your skin with small circular motions. remember to be just at gentle with this tool and use very light pressure for best results.

jade roller.png

Jade roller:

Jade rollers and other facial stone rollers are a nice tool to have at home for lymph drainage. After applying serums you can use roll across your skin starting with an inside portion of your face and rolling outward using light/medium pressure. I find this most beneficial underneath the eyes and in the cheek area. Daily facial rolling can help decrease puffiness and redness. Always clean your jade roller before and after use (I like to use a facial soap or cleansing gel). Store it in the freezer for extra de-puffing benefits! Your skin will love the feeling of a cool jade roller. Roll each section of your face that you are working on 6-10 times. Remember your light/medium pressure, not pressing too hard.

gua sha stone.png

Facial gua sha stone:

A facial gua sha stone is a facial tool you can use for both lymph drainage and anti-aging. This is one of my favorite tools, I could definitely do a whole deep-dive blog on gua sha stones. Similar to the jade roller movements you can use this stone to glide across your face to drain lymph and puffiness. You always want to apply a light facial oil like my nourishing serum when using your gua sha stone. I like this for lymph drainage better than a jade roller because it feels like you have more control. This particular stone a like a lot because the different sides hug different parts of your face really comfortably. You can also use this stone for lifting and facial contouring movements that can be practiced daily. The comb looking edge of this tool can be used to help erase fine lines. Learn more about daily massage movements you can do with this stone by clicking on the link here. You can also follow Britta Beauty on Instagram for great facial gua sha tutorials. I like this facial stone the best because of its shape and high quality but you can find other options on Amazon by searching gua sha stone.

Handheld LED light:

An LED light treatment is a light-emitting diode therapy that is safe for all clients. Red LED light therapy helps stimulate and regenerate collagen and elastin, helping anti-age skin. I’ve found red light therapy to be most helpful after I’ve exfoliated and applied the anti-aging serum. Blue LED kills bacteria under the skin. This helps clear and rid the skin of active breakouts, acne, and cysts. This handheld model can be used by treating small areas of the face a few minutes at a time. For red LED I suggest treating the whole face and neck. For blue LED just focus on the areas that have active blemishes or cysts underneath. This can be used once daily. I like lightstim the best because they are a company I trust a lot and they offer professional-strength LED that we can have at home.

bt micro.png

Multifunction facial tool:

This is a fun tool! This is what we estheticians refer to as a bt micro. You may have experienced something like this in a spa facial treatment; a vibrating spatula-type tool that helps clear pores and infuses serums into the skin. This tool has two functions. The first thing it can do it acts as a “power washer” for your pores when you glide the vibrating spatula across damp skin. Skin is gently but deeply cleaned and impacted dirt in the pores is loosened. The second thing this tool can do is infuse your serums and help them activate. After you apply serums you’ll hit the button on this tool two times, place the flat part onto your face, and move in slow circular motions. It will use a current to push serums into live skin cells and to give you the best results.

nu face.png

Facial lifting tool:

This tool is for those looking to really tone, tighten, and lift their skin. This is similar to a microcurrent lifting treatment performed in the treatment room at a spa or skincare studio. It uses a current to strengthen, tighten, and lift tissues when you massage in an upwards motion. You can see lasting results with consistent, daily use and some mild lifting results after your first treatment. The NuFace is definitely a tool for those looking to treat themselves to something nice. It’s not a necessity for your skincare routine but if you’ve tried to tighten and lift with other treatments and struggle to see results it’s a great option for you!

cooling globes.png

Cooling facial globes:

Cooling globes are a facial tool I think everyone should own. These glass globes are filled with a non-freezing liquid that helps keep them just chilly enough after you take them out of the freezer to give yourself a great 5-8 minute facial massage. Gliding these cold facial globes onto your skin helps reduce redness, puffiness, close pores, and relieve facial pressure. If you have a headache or allergies using these across your forehead will feel amazing. Puffy eyes can be cared for with these also. Just like a facial stone or jade roller, clean these before and after use.

scrub me secret: If you’re looking to treat yourself or someone special to a luxury cooling facial roller I suggest the skinny confidential ice queen roller. It’s a bit of a splurge but a nice such a nice tool!
