Have the BEST bold brows.

Bold brows go great with a face mask!

Bold brows go great with a face mask!

Full, defined but still natural-looking eyebrows are the most requested type of brow in my skincare studio. I think a slightly thicker, naturally shaped brow fits everyone’s facial shape really well and helps highlight beautiful facial features! If you’re looking for full, defined, natural-looking brows, I have a 3-step process to share with you that will give you just that. This brow routine will have your brows looking so on point that you won’t feel the need to fill them in with makeup. The very last step here is a makeup artist secret that’s been circulating around the beauty blogs, and let me tell you it really is quite the hack for the best looking brows!

scrub me secret: this brow routine will not only have your brows looking amazing but it will also benefit the health and growth of your delicate brow hairs. I’m always looking for ways to beautify while also contributing to the overall health of the skin, hair, and body. I think that’s what makes a true beauty/wellness ritual: something that helps you look and feel beautiful while also contributing to the health of your body.

Brow prep with multipurpose balm:

Last year I debuted a multipurpose balm that has many uses (obviously), but it really helps strengthen and grow brow hair. This waxy balm contains both castor and pumpkin oil which are great for aiding in hair growth. Its texture also helps keep hairs in place and feeling soft. Prep your brows by combing this multipurpose balm onto them before you go to bed. Make this a consistent routine and overtime your brows will become healthier and fluffier look. The rest of this brow routine can still really work for you even if you skip this step but I suggest trying to comb the balm into your brows at least 4 nights a week to have them in optimal condition.

These are my brows pre-brow tint or styling. I apply the multipurpose balm into them most nights and shape them by tweezing and trimming.

I definitely suggest leaving the tweezing, threading, or waxing to a professional.

scrub me secret: if your brows are super sparse or too thin for your liking I suggest using the multipurpose balm nightly for 2+ weeks before you move onto the tinting. It seems a little tedious and kind of a bummer to wait for the brow tint that you’re wanting but you will be happier with the tint where there is more hair there.

Brow tint with your esthetician:

Brow tinting is just the best! Whether you have full, semi-full, or thin brows it’s a great way to define and fill in the natural shape that you have. Brow tint grabs onto your fine hairs and darkens them to make your brow look fuller. It’s also great for those who have light-colored brow hairs that wish to darken them a bit. Tinting options can be customized depending on your hair color. This tint is what’s going to make our brows nice and bold and then the last step is what will give us the best looking, defined shape.

scrub me secret: if you’re unhappy or unsure about the actual shape of your brow, or just in need of a cleanup, you can schedule a brow shaping + tint with your esthetician. this way you can get your brows darkened, defined, and remove some hairs to create your optimal shape.

These are my brows post-tint. They’re looking good already but we aren’t done yet! I love the slightly darker, bolder color but would still like them to look defined and perfect. That takes us to our last step...soap brows.

Soap brow technique:

“Soap brows” is something I heard about on one of my favorite blogs, The Skinny Confidential, and it was something I just had to try. I wear very minimal makeup so I was intrigued by this beauty method that was said to give you perfectly shaped brows with no makeup whatsoever. In fact, I read that if trying the soap brow technique then it is best to not fill in your brows at all because your makeup won’t set in properly.

So what are soap brows? It’s exactly how it sounds! We are using bar soap to help perfectly shape brows. Beauty experts found a trick that uses soap as an amazing brow styling agent. When applied correctly your brow hairs become extremely easy to comb and style giving them more length and shape. When you’re able to comb the hairs exactly how you want you will find that your brows will look full and amazing. All you’ll need is a bar of soap and a spoolie.

scrub me secret: makeup artists and beauty experts say that using a clear bar of soap is best so there’s no chance of residue on the hairs. I wasn’t able to find a clear bar so I tested it out on a few different soaps. I used one of my handmade, plant-based bars first and that actually did leave a little bit of residue on my hairs, which I think was because of all the oils in it. I then found an Aveeno drugstore bar that wasn’t clear but it is made with glycerin instead of rich oils. This worked well for me. If anyone tries a clear bar let me know in the comments how you liked it!

Get your bar of soap wet and then take your spoolie and rub it around on the soap until you get the soap a little soft. Your spoolie will be covered in a soap gel/foam; let that sit for about 30 seconds before applying to the brows. This will help it get a little tacky feeling. Comb the soap into your brows and wait another 30 seconds or so for that to dry. Then your brows are ready to shape and will literally stay however you want! This will definitely beat any other brow gel or styling product you’ve tried before.

Soap brows! I combed my hairs to the exact shape I wanted them and they look so fluffy and bold. The soap is acting like a gel so I don’t have to worry about the hair falling out of place. It easily washed away with my PM skincare routine.

These are my steps to the best, bold looking brows! After your brows are tinted your routine at home will be soap brows in the AM and multipurpose balm in the PM. A tint is needed about every 2-3 weeks to refresh your look. If you’re in the Chicagoland area come get a brow tint and shaping with me and you can pick up a multipurpose balm while you’re in the studio! Let me know in the comments section if the soap brow technique is your new favorite way to style your brows.
