Find the Best LED Device For You: Shopping Tips From an Esthetician šŸ›

LED therapy can be extremely effective for treating acne, reducing signs of aging (lines/wrinkles/sagging skin), and keeping up the health of your skin. With so many devices on the market, it can be difficult to figure out which one to invest in. I compiled a list of devices I recommend to my facial clients so they can achieve their best results.

scrub me secret: having a high-quality LED device at home is a great addition to seeing an esthetician for facials every 4-6 weeks. The pairing of professional treatments and effective light therapy will help you achieve results like clear skin, fewer wrinkles, and firm glowing skin.

What to look for when choosing your LED device

Before purchasing an LED device make sure it checks off all the boxes on this list ā¤µļø

LED Technologies Panel

  • Nanometers of light: To be effective we want the LED device to deliver wavelengths of light at 400+ nanometers for blue LED and 600+ nanometers for red LED. You can find this information on the LED deviceā€™s website or by googling it.

scrub me secret: infrared light is a bonus addition to your LED device. infrared light delivers at deeper wavelengths (850+) and is deeply healing for the skin and body.

  • Number of lightbulbs: The more light bulbs the better! You want to choose a device with many lightbulbs placed close together. When the bulbs are placed so close together, youā€™ll cover more surface area of your skin, giving you the best results.

  • Good reviews: Check out the reviews before purchasing to make sure you buy a high-quality device that is comfortable to use and will last a long time.

  • Skip the devices with 5+ types of LED: In my opinion and experience with LED devices, the ones that offer many different light options like red, blue, green, amber, yellow, and white are never as high quality as those that deliver only 1-4 types of LED.

I recommend choosing a device that has red LED, blue LED, amber LED, or a combo. There isnā€™t much research that shows the other colors are very effective anyway.

infrared is different than LED and if your device has that light too then thatā€™s great

scrub me secrets: amber LED is a pain and inflammation-reducing LED usually found in a device that emits only that light or you will find it paired with red LED or infrared light. This type of LED is popular for treating arthritis, psoriasis, and general inflammation.

Lightstim Handheld LED

This handheld LED device has the exact same technology as the professional LightStim LED treatments you can receive at a dermatologist or spa. Since itā€™s much smaller than the light panels and full coverage devices used by professionals, it is far more affordable. Even though itā€™s still a little pricier than the devices you will find on Amazon itā€™s actually going to work and deliver the results you want.

This is a popular mask among my facial clients! Omnilux offers LED masks with red LED and infrared light or blue LED. These masks are comfortable, effective, and easy to use while you do other things like read, watch TV, do laundry, etc.

LED Technologies Inc. Panel

An LED light panel is a good option for those who feel like a mask might make them uncomfortable but wish to cover more surface area than the handheld LightStim LED. This panel has great specs and contains a lot of LED bulbs, placed closely together.
