My Favorite Facial Masks

A great home skincare routine is a must wouldn’t we all say? And an amazing skincare routine doesn’t even have to be too complicated! Once you have established which cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, and other skincare items work well for your skin routine it’s time to start adding in other self-care/skincare habits like face massage and at-home treatment masks.

This list of treatment masks includes products that I find to be effective for treating various skin concerns and reaching your goals of healthy, clear, glowing skin.

scrub me secret: resist the urge to mask too often! I know it can be tempting if you find a mask that you love to use every day or every other day but if you use a detoxifying or exfoliating mask too often it can end up making your skin dried out, unbalanced, and overall sensitized. And if it’s a hydrating mask, using it more than 3x a week is wasteful.

The best face masks to use at home

Josh Rosebrook - Cacao Antioxidant Mask

LOVE this mask. This is a unique skin-stimulating and detoxifying facial mask.  This antioxidant mask uses a synergy of plant derivatives like ginger, ashwagandha, cacao, cinnamon, rosemary, rose petal, and SO many more ingredients to create circulation in the skin and provide radiance benefits.  This chocolate-colored creamy mask goes on smoothly, creates a warming effect on the skin, and leaves it clearer, stronger, and more radiant.

Benefits:

Creates oxygen flow and circulation in the skin to create radiance

Strengthens and firms the skin

Clears complexion and evens skin tone

Skin Nutritious -Colloidal Oat Mask

Colloidal oats have been my secret ingredients for immediately soothing skin and calming redness. This mask is made up of micro-particle colloidal oatmeal powder that you simply mix with water and apply to your skin that’s feeling sensitive, irritated, red, or extra dry.

Benefits:

Soothes skin and reduces signs of irritation like itchiness and redness

Helps even overall complexion by reducing inflammation

Helps dry skin to become softer and less flaky

Can also be used on areas of the body that have bus bites, irritation, or red/flaky skin

scrub me secret: another thing I love about this colloidal oat mask and the josh rosebrook hydration I’m listing below is that you can leave these masks on your skin for hours if you would like. Unlike detoxifying or exfoliating masks that need to be removed within a certain number of minutes.

Josh Rosebrook - Advanced Hydration Mask

My favorite moisturizing mask because it contains ingredients like aloe and Indian Sienna Seed extract that replenish skin with water-based hydration plus ingredients like mango seed butter and shea that provide oil/nutrient-rich moisture.  Blue tansy, blue chamomile, and marshmallow root (some of my favorite ingredients) are also included in this mask. I love this mask for all skin types but especially ones that need moisture, softening, and/or healing.

Benefits:

Firms, moisturizes, and softens skin

Diminishes redness while providing hydration

Leaves skin plump, glowing, and glazed looking

Maya Chai - The Refresh Mint Mask

A really lovely enzyme mask that’s gentle enough for most skin types. Brightening azelaic acid, softening lactic acid, pore-clearing salicylic acid, and hydrating hyaluronic acid all work together to treat the skin.  Wintergreen leaf extract provides a cooling sensation. I love this mask for when I’m feeling dry, dull, and/or slightly congested.

Benefits:

Softens the skin and evens skin tone

Great enzyme mask for most skin types

Leaves skin radiant and glowing

scrub me secret: theres a difference between your skin feeling warmth or a “tingly” feeling and a stinging burning feeling from a product. Feeling warmth or a “tingle” means the product is doing its job in creating circulation/ blood flow in your skin, resulting in a flushed looking face for a little bit after the mask is removed. This is a good thing! If you feel a stinging or uncomfortable burning sensation, thats not the reaction we are looking for from a product and it should be removed.

scrub me - antioxidant powder mask / nourishing serum

A mask I make myself! For a truly effective and non-skin-damaging facial scrub, you need a product with just the right texture.  This powder is made using crushed grapeseed and crushed rosehip as the exfoliants; these ingredients are super finely crushed and have soft edges that won’t damage the skin while scrubbing.  The blend of antioxidant-rich grapeseed, rosehip, and green tea gives this powder make its skin protection and anti-aging properties.  Added activated charcoal provides detoxification and cucumber extract aids in strengthening the skin.  Mix with the nourishing serum to create the perfect facial paste. I use this facial scrub in like 80% of my facials.

Benefits:

Effectively buffs away dead skin cells without damaging the skin’s barrier

Creates anti-aging circulation and oxygen flow in the skin

Prevents signs of aging like dark spots and fine lines

scrub me secret: for a facial scrub you need exfoliants that have soft, cylindrical edges. Anything with jagged or sharp edges like salts and roughly ground nut shells will create micro-tears in the skin that cause damage that results in a sensitive-looking or uneven complexion.

These are all masks that I have used myself personally and/or in the skincare studio on my facial clients! Do you have a favorite treatment mask? I would love to know. 💭
